CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore guard
Darnell Evans (Deer Park, N.Y.) notched his 1,000th career point and junior forward
Derrick Bueno led the Cougars with 17 points and matched a team-high eight rebounds as Caldwell men's basketball fell to Felician, 79-61, at the Newman Center in CACC action on Wednesday.
Evans hit the four-figure mark with a free throw with 15:26 left in the first half, his third point of the game. He finished with 10 points and a game-high five steals, adding six rebounds and a block for good measure.
The Cougars trailed by as many as 16 at 30-14 with 7:00 left in the first half, before a late run, capped by a dunk by soph forward
Landon Shivers (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), and layups by
Darnell Evans and Bueno pulled CU to within five by the intermission.
Caldwell (8-10, 4-5 CACC) would edge as close as four on three occasions in the second half, the last time at 13:24 on a steal and layup by sophomore guard
Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) to make it 50-44. But Felician (10-11, 6-4) extended its lead back to double digits and the Cougars would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Melvin Evans had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars, who made just three of 19 three point shots (15.8%) and shot 37.1% from the floor overall in the contest.
Caldwell continues its homestand with an interdivisional CACC matchup against Georgian Court on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Newman Center.
