W. CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior attacker
Michael Brown (Glenolden, Pa.) scored three times and added an assist, and senior attacker
Owen Healey (Washington, N.J.) contributed two goals as Caldwell men's lacrosse built an early lead and held on for a gritty 10-8 win over Bridgeport at Essex Valley Field on Tuesday.
Healey (one) and Brown (two) scored first-quarter goals to stake the Cougars to a 3-1 lead. After UB narrowed its deficit to a goal, the Cougars scored five straight by five different players to open an 8-2 lead that eventually swelled to 10-3 on Healey's other tally with 9:36 left in the third.Â
The Purple Knights (1-7, 0-2 CACC) wouldn't go away, hitting the back of the net three times in the third and two more in the fourth, but the Cougars defense stiffened when it needed it most, getting numerous strong saves from senior goaltender
Tim Livingston (Holtsville, N.Y.), who finished with 18 stops in a fine effort.
Junior attacker
Jason Staudte (Sound Beach, N.Y.) had two assists to help the Cougars cause.
Caldwell (2-6, 1-2 CACC) will next be in action at Post next Tuesday, April 11.
