Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The ninth-ranked Caldwell College softball team defeated No. 20 LIU Post, 6-1 in the Game 2 of the NCAA Division II East Super Regional Saturday afternoon at the LIU Post Softball Field. The Cougars (45-8) and Pioneers (49-9) will decide the Super Regional champion in Game 3, which is set to start at 3:20 p.m. Saturday.

Caldwell struck first in the bottom of the first inning, as junior Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) doubled home junior Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea). LIU Post pulled even with a run in the top of the second on a single by Samantha Miller that plated Paige Swantek. In the bottom of the second, senior Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) hit a one-out double, with Knorr following with a single to bring home Bates for a 2-1 lead.

A pair of infield singles by senior Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and freshman Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) put two on for freshman Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter), who blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence for a 5-1 advantage. Calderon made it 6-1 with a sacrifice fly that scored Knorr in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore pitcher Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) limited the Pioneers to one run on four hits while striking out four and walking two to improve to 19-5 on the season. Knorr went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and one run batted in to pace the Cougar bats.
